Doppler Flow Meters are recommended for full pipes and any fluid that contains solids or bubbles.

Ultrasonic Clamp On Flow Meter - Micronics Ultraflo UF AV5000

Monitor flow through open channels, partially full sewer pipes and surcharged pipes without a flume or weir. Ideal for municipal stormwater, combined effluent, raw sewage and irrigation water.

The UF AV5000 uses a submerged ultrasonic sensor to continuously measure both Velocity and Level in the channel.

The sensor resists fouling, corrosion and abrasion. The flowmeter can be configured with the standard submerged velocity-level sensor, or with submerged velocity plus a separate non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor.

Micronics DFS-II Doppler Flow Switch

The DFS-II Doppler Flow Switch is recommended for flow control of liquids containing gas bubbles or solids: chemicals, slurries, sludge, viscous liquids, wastewater, caustics and abrasives.

The ultrasonic sensor injects high frequency sound through the pipe wall into the flowing liquid. Acoustic pulses are continuously reflected back to the sensor and the DFS-II measures a frequency shift to calculate flow velocity.

Ultrasonic Clamp On Flow Meter Technology

An ultrasonic clamp on flow meter is a type of flow meter that measures the velocity of a liquid or gas (fluid) by using the principle of ultrasound.

Using ultrasonic transducers, the flow meter can measure the average velocity along the path of an emitted beam of ultrasound, by averaging the difference in measured transit time between the pulses of ultrasound propagating into and against the direction of the flow.

Ultrasonic flow meters are affected by the temperature, density and viscosity of the flowing medium. They are inexpensive to use and maintain because they do not use moving parts, unlike mechanical flow meters.

Another method in ultrasonic flow metering is the use of the Doppler shift that results from the reflection of an ultrasonic beam off sonically reflective materials, such as solid particles or entrained air bubbles in a flowing fluid, or the turbulence of the fluid itself, if the liquid is clean.
