Achieve BREEAM Credit WAT 03 with WRAS Approved Water Shut Off Valves

BREEAM WAT 03 Water Leak Detection & Prevention

The aim of BREEAM WAT 03 is to reduce the impact of water leaks that may otherwise go undetected.

One BREEAM Credit is awarded for:-

One of the following types of flow control device is fitted to each WC area/facility to ensure water is supplied only when needed (and therefore prevent minor water leaks):

  1. A time controller i.e. an automatic time switch device to switch off the water supply after a predetermined interval
  2. A programmed time controller i.e. an automatic time switch device to switch water on and/or off at predetermined times
  3. A volume controller i.e. an automatic control device to turn off the water supply once the maximum preset volume is reached
  4. A presence detector and controller i.e. an automatic device detecting occupancy or movement in an area to switch water on and turn it off when the presence is removed
  5. A central control unit i.e. a dedicated computer-based control unit for an overall man-aged water control system, utilising some or all of the types of control elements listed above

T&D offer a range of WRAS approved water shut off valves from 15mm - 50mm. Options are avaiable for both low pressure and standard pressure water systems. Solenoid valves are also availble in various power supply options. Please contact T&D for advice.

BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)

The world's leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings. BREEAM credits are awarded according to performance. A set of environmental weightings then enables the credits to be added together to produce a single overall score.

The building is then rated on a scale of: PASS, GOOD, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT or OUTSTANDING and a certificate is awarded to the development. Using a WRAS approved water shut off valves helps achieve the aim below. WRAS approved 3 4" Solenoid Valve shown in the video helps achieve the criteria set out below. WRAS Approval (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme)

When installing a product which will carry or receive water from the public mains water supply in the UK, it is a criminal offence if it does not comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations or Scottish Byelaws.

These require that a water fitting should not cause waste, misuse, undue consumption or contamination of the water supply and must be ‘of an appropriate quality and standard’.

WRAS Approval is the best way to demonstrate compliance as it is granted directly by representatives of the water suppliers and is therefore accepted by every water supplier in the UK.

This type of approval demonstrates full compliance with requirements of the regulations and byelaws, provided the fitting is installed according to any conditions given with the approval.

T&D distribute a range of products that are compliant with BREEAM WAT03 criteria. Please click on a link below for further information:-
